Marcos San Segundo Eizaguirre
Synthetic organic chemist, author, and app developer.
Chemist, educator & builder
I'm a synthetic organic chemist from the Basque Country working as a postdoc at the University of Copenhagen, where I develop iridium-based photocatalytic probes and fluorophore conjugates for chemical biology applications.
Beyond the lab, I write chemistry textbooks and build mobile learning apps — because the best way to make science stick is to meet students where they are.
My work sits at the intersection of precision synthesis, light-driven chemistry, and modern pedagogy. Long-term goal: return to the Basque Country and keep building tools that make chemistry more accessible worldwide.
A bit more about me
I grew up in Zarautz, on the Basque coast, and have spent the last decade moving between research groups in Spain, Singapore, and Denmark — working on photoredox catalysis, organometallic chemistry, asymmetric synthesis, and solid-phase peptide synthesis.
Outside the lab, I taught myself Flutter and Dart from scratch to build OrganicChem Quiz and a second app, MedChem Quiz — with no prior programming background. I'm also learning Python and cheminformatics (RDKit, pandas) to bring computational tools into my chemistry work.
